RDG Planning & Design has been awarded a 2010 Design award from the Nebraska Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Charles Vrana and Son Construction company was the proud general contractor for the project, the Omaha North High Magnet School new Engineering, Science and Technology Addition.
Excerpt from the Nebraska AIA website:
"The addition is a 4-story infill between two wings of a 1922 inner city school. It will be used for their magnet school program in biology, media technology and engineering and is intended to help provide a new image for the school.
Engineering will use the addition as a teaching element, with all of the building’s systems exposed in their spaces and the public areas. Telecom room was wrapped in glass to allow students to see and learn about the infrastructure. The project has been submitted for LEED accredited.
Jury Comments: By taking advantage of residual space, the project creates a holistic solution to an interesting problem. A diverse program is brought together by consistency in interior and exterior materials creating a tastefully simple solution."
